Universal screening is a tool used in schools to identify students who may require additional support in reading, writing, and math. It is one tool used as part of an early warning system to identify students at risk for academic
deficits. However, it is not the sole measure used for educational decision-making. School leaders should corroborate the results with at least two other data points to ensure the presence of risk factors.
