EBPN: Explicit Instruction Element 11: Require Frequent Responses & Opportunities to Respond

Providing frequent opportunities to respond (OTRs) is the most effective strategy for increasing student engagement. When teachers consistently embed OTRs into lessons, they create ongoing checkpoints for understanding. These quick responses allow educators to immediately gauge student learning, determine whether concepts need to be retaught, and identify when students would benefit from additional practice.
