The IDEA requires that students have measurable goals to meet their needs and make progress in the general curriculum, along with a method to measure progress toward meeting these goals (34 C.F.R. 300.320(2) (3). Michele Spigner, a teacher in the Charleston County School District, and Jenny Saunders, AASC coordinator, will discuss using curriculum-based measurement to set IEP goals, track student progress, and guide instruction. Participants will leave with practical tips for managing the progress monitoring system, ideas to engage students in the process, additional resources for the classroom, and methods for sharing the information with parents.
