Establishing Routines with Instructional Formats

Join Jennifer Sowers and Susan Thomas as they share how instructional routines can be a time saver for teachers and make learning easier for students. Instructional routines are teaching behaviors that can be used repeatedly when presenting new content or providing practice for students. The format is the script used for the task (decoding, vocabulary, solving word problems, etc.). When teachers use instructional routines, they reduce students’ cognitive load, enabling them to concentrate on the content to be learned.  Additional resources can be found by going to the resources page.
